OTHER COMMON ANTS

There are many other ants that you may come across in or around your home or business besides the pavement and carpenter ant. These may include the thief ant, fire ant, little black ant, odorous house ant, crazy ant, field ant, cornfield ant and large yellow ant....just to name a few!

The rather obscure ant in the photo above however, is the pharaoh ant.  In the state of New York, they will be one of the more common and more difficult ants to get rid of.

Pharaoh ants will eat almost anything and due to their small size (1/15" to 1-1/2" long) they can get into everything. In the home pharaoh ants are typically found in kitchens and bathrooms or around other water sources. It is not uncommon to find them running up and down faucet handles and beneath the spout itself in search of water. They can nest between walls, under floors, behind switch plates and other warm, dry places close to water.

CAUTION! If you suspect you have an infestation of these tiny ants. DO NOT SPRAY THEM WITH INSECTICIDE!

Treating pharaoh ants with liquid or dust insecticides will stress the colony and cause it to split into sub-colonies. This can exacerbate the situation as you may end up with several different nests and a lot more work.
