PIGEONS

The Feral Pigeon or Rock Pigeon is probably one of the most recognizable birds in the world. They

exist in close proximity to mankind are commonly seen in both rural and urban settings. The Feral Pigeon is

considered a pest in most urban settings as they travel in large flocks, breed rapidly and can often make quite a mess with both nesting materials and fecal droppings.

The most important feature of the Feral Pigeon is that its droppings can carry a number

of diseases which can make people sick including; Histoplasmosis, Cryptococcosis and Psittacosis

Here are some Pigeon facts:

• Feral pigeons will breed all year round and up to six times per year
• They mostly feed on seeds and berries but will scavenge for any available food
• Pigeons use manmade structures to nest in/on which often makes them an intrusive species
