German cockroach
The German cockroach (Blattella germanica) is the most persistant and difficult to manage
of all the species. Unfortunately, it is also the most common too!
Here are some German cockroach facts:
-
Adults are pale to medium brown
-
Approximately 1/2 to 5/8 inch long
-
Adult females may hatch 5-8 egg capsules in their lifetime
-
Each capsule contains 30 to 48 eggs
-
They prefer dark, moist areas especially near water and heat sources like beneath appliances
-
The German roach can be identied easily by the two black bands running down its pronotum (as seen above)
-
Prefers food spills and residues but will consume almost anything
-
Are largely nocturnal. Activity during the day may indicate a heavy infestation
-
Live in cracks and crevices prefering material made of wood
-
Are known to display insecticide resistance
-
Eat their own fecal droppings and are
cannibalistic
In heavy infestations, the German cockroach can be extensive work to control. We do NOT
believe in spraying liquid insecticides for German roaches unless it 100% necessary. There are much better ways to eliminate them that are far less toxic but more importantly, work better!
