CENTIPEDES

There are thousands of species of centipedes worldwide. One of the more common ones you may find in your home is the House Centipede, pictured above. Centipedes, like spiders, kill and eat other insects. They are nocturnal hunters and can be typically be found in damp areas around the home such as basements, closets and bathrooms.

The house centipede can reach speeds of 16 inches per second. If you have seen one scurry across the floor in front of you, you will agree that they appear quite fast!

Here are some other house centipede facts:

• They can live up to 7 years
• They will grow to 1-1/2" long and are yellowish-gray with 3 dark stripes running the full length of the back
• Fully developed adults have 15 pairs of legs
• House centipedes can inflict a bite that can cause minor swelling
